I’m not a gambling man in the traditional sense. I enjoy blackjack, sure, but there’s no game of chance where I’d lay money on the line for the thrill of it. I’m just that risk-averse. However, this differs when I’m hitting up The Pass or Grounded or Black Market…it differs a LOT. I turn into a Kenny Rogers song at that point because my love of the “dealer’s choice” is unfathomable. I’ve been thinking about why I like it so much and I’ve come to a conclusion of two parts. One, I like the randomness of it. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve loved those $1 grab bags you used to see at stores and I was a sucker that’d buy one every time. Second…I like getting a little glimpse into the mind of the person behind the counter. Asking what they like gives me a little bit of information about their tastes and likes and it makes it easier to find a budtender that I mesh with for future purchases. So it’s a win win. This strain, DDD by Aura Canna Co, is one of those roulette spins, so to speak. But enough of me talking, here’s the review.

Nose: Very earthy and…deep, is the only way I can put it. It’s got almost like a loamy kind of smell, along with a vegetal smell that’s like thyme or rosemary but blended with dirt. It smells very good, don’t get me wrong. It’s just an intensely soil and foliage smell, like cut grass and herbs next to a pile of humus. Very delightful.
Taste: Follows the nose, really. I can’t get much more than “earthy” above the tobacco in the spliff but it’s a very welcome taste, like the taste of the air after it’s rained. It’s nice.
High: I like this stuff. It’s almost a duality of sorts when it comes to the high. In smaller, lighter doses, you’re pretty functional in terms of getting stuff done. You can putter around the house and cook, clean, organize, whatever. It doesn’t make you overwhelmingly leaden or stupefied…until you go for a higher dose. At higher doses, this is some Cheech and Chong level of smoke. The high makes you silly, oblivious, and very inquisitive. I remember thinking to myself, at one point, “Do frogs and toads compete against each other to see who’s the superior amphibian?” Also, it leaves you quite pensive. I spent an inordinate amount of time trying to figure out how to pronounce the name. Is it like King Dedede? Is it Triple D? Is it 3D? Is it Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives? Who knows. I certainly couldn’t figure it out.
This stuff is pretty solid, I have to say. I’m not sure it’s a strain I would trip over myself to seek out (like my all-time favorite Permanent Marker) but it’s a good strain. The taste is good, the smell is good, the effect on target is good AND long lasting (about 2.5-3hrs) so it’s a good choice. It’s definitely a strain that you’d smoke in a library with a pipe and a snifter of brandy and ponder the huge questions in life like “Why do I like Guy Fieri so much?” Seriously though, ever since I typed the triple D above I’ve been binging Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. The Fieri is strong in my office these days. Anyway, pick it up, I think it’s worth a shot.
